Auto Shop Owner Shot While Protecting Business from Armed Robber

Colorado Springs, CO – Police were called to Southwest Auto after an attempted armed robbery resulted in exchange of gunfire. The suspect entered Southwest Auto brandishing a firearm and the employees inside the business then tried to defend themselves with a gun leading to an exchange of gunfire.

The owner of the business was shot twice. Police say the injuries appear to be non-life threatening. It isn’t clear if the suspect was shot.

The suspect fled and the Sgt. Jim Jeffcoat with the Colorado Springs Police Department. “We really want to catch this guy. Don’t mess with our people. We want to protect the people of this city.”

The suspect was only described as a black male. The suspect fled on foot and remains at large.

In 2009 there was another shooting at the same business. The owner and employees shot and killed a burglar. They were never charged, but did lose a civil suit with the suspect’s family. It isn’t clear if the two incidents are connected
